The Life Long Learning Centre department offers a wide range of courses in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Whether you want to gain new skills, qualifications or just want to learn for pleasure we will be able to help. Most courses are run on an ongoing basis and therefore can be joined at any time of the year. All courses are FREE.
Training is provided at different levels from just for fun to Oxford, Cambridge, RSA and Open College Network levels 1 to 3. So if you would like to broaden your skills or just fancy some company please give us a call.
Courses we offer:
OCR Text and Word Processing - OCR Qualification- you can start with basic computing and progress up to level 3 including Text & Word Processing, Audio Transcription, Medical Word Processing, Document Presentation, Business Presentation, Mail Merge, Legal Text Processing and Legal Word Processing.
Art Class - OCN Qualification - This accredited art programme will cover a variety of skills and styles, suitable for both beginners and those with some experience. This course will include drawing, painting and printmaking.
Craft Class / Non accredited- this course includes making cards, bead work, jewellery, glass painting and printmaking.
Introduction to plumbing / OCN qualification - an introduction to basic plumbing providing you with the knowledge to tackle those small problems at home you were always afraid to.
Introduction to Woodwork / OCN qualification - this introduction to woodwork gives an insight into how to prepare and plan specific projects. Woodwork skills are increased when the learner has an understanding of the theory.
Woodwork Class/ Non Accredited - this course will enable you to have an understanding of construction joint methods and practical learning through the use of hand tools.
Intermediate Psychology / OCN qualification - this is 10 week course designed for people who have an interest in psychology.
English SPeaking and Listening / OCN qualification - Basic English speaking classes for those whom English is not their first language. These courses can be attended even if you are on shift work.
Get Ahead with English/ Maths - City & Guild Qualification - these courses will help you improve your written English and use of everyday maths.
Retail course - this course is for people looking to return to the job market and those that are looking to work in the retail trade. Included in the course is the opportunity to gain certificates in Food Hygiene, Basic First Aid and Health and Safety. The course is run in partnership with Coleg Harlech WEA, Yale and Communities First. The Retail Course comprises of OCN (Open College Network) qualifications in: Customer Service, basic skills in English & Maths, ICT and personal development skills.
Progression Programme to Higher Education / OCN Qualification Level 3 - If you are interested in developing your skills to enhance your job prospects , enter higher education at NEWI or support your children then this course is for you. This is a full time course.
Certificate in Counselling / OCN Qualification - this programme is for anyone who wants to start to study counselling or uses counselling skills in their work or voluntary activity.
Diploma in Counseliing / OCN Qualification - This Diploma course is designed to provide a progression for those who wish to train as a professional counsellor.
Health and Wellness / Qualification 10 Credits - This module offers the student the opportunity to explore the ideas of health and well being. The course will look at how these factors may influence lifestyle choices such as smoking, diet and exercise.
Introduction to Cookery / OCN Qualification - This course is designed to help people who want to learn basic cooking.
