The Front garden is finished

Overview of events

Now the front garden is finished it’s a time to reflect and look at what has happened over the past twelve months.

When the weeds and grass were up to about 3 foot high the management at the Partnership felt it was time to take action, the view from the café was not pleasant and the first thing many visitors saw was this front area.

A communities first funding bid was successful and this was instrumental in been able to undergo the project.

Firstly some 40 tons of mixed rubbish and top soil was removed and levelled, Hanson’s of Bristol donated 60 tons of hard core which was put in place and levelled.

During the summer of 2003 the children and families team joined volunteers and local children in a week long preparation programme of concreting and pulling together of ideas of how the garden was to look.

Mike Clapham with community service personnel carried on with preparation work throughout the year, much of which involved the hard labour of manually moving materials by hand.

A big thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped on this one, so many people leant a hand when they could spare the time.

Finally the garden was finished with help from the 10 international volunteers

We would like say a special 'Thank You' to:

Berwyn Slate quarry of Llangollen for the donation of a Welsh slate monolith

Castle Cement for kindly donating 108 bags of cement for this project.

Hansons of Bristol for donating 20 ton of ballast.

Tarmac of Macclesfield for donating 60 ton of hardcore.

Travis Perkins of Wrexham sourced various donations from suppliers along with discounts for the Partnership.
