WEST WHEELS COMMUNITY LINK
West Wheels Community Transport Scheme, which was launched on 1st April 2008 and is run on a membership basis, for the benefit of the residents of Coedpoeth, Brymbo, Lodge, Tanyfron, Southsea, Brynteg, New Broughton, Pentre Broughton, Caego, Moss, Gwersyllt, Bradley, Summerhill, Rhosrobin, Pandy and Llay. The service allows members to travel within and between all areas listed for an annual membership fee of j£2 and a charge of £1 per single journey within one village (e.g Coedpoeth to Coedpoeth) or £2 per single journey to travel between more than one village( e.g Coepdoeth to Llay)
Local resident and Chair of the Transport Group Sandra Williams says: “We are delighted this scheme has being launched as it came directly out of a survey into what residents wanted. Many residents complain that to visit a neighbouring community by bus they have to go into Wrexham town centre first to get another bus back out. West Wheels is designed to overcome that problem and let members travel between the local communities for a minimal fee.”
The new scheme hopes to give residents greater access to local services such as dentists, health centres and shops. It also links a number of resource centres that were developed through the European funded URBAN II programme. This has seen new resource centres open in Tanyfron, Llay, Brynteg, Brymbo and Gwersyllt with the latest due to open in Coedpoeth this Spring.
The service is recognisable thanks to its distinctive logo which was designed by Jordi Evans a pupil at Ysgol Penryhn, New Broughton. Jordi won a competition to come up with a design which will now be seen on all the literature.
The West Wheels Community Transport Scheme has been developed by local residents with support from the Economic Development Department of Wrexham County Borough Council. If you would like to know more about the scheme please contact the Community Development Team on 01978 367930.
