Mentoring scheme consultation Information To complete the survey click here The CLiP partners are currently discussing introducing a mentoring scheme across the Wrexham County Borough. The scheme would run alongside the current CLiP project which will continue to provide the same level of training. The Mentoring scheme would provide staff and volunteers who have attended CLiP courses with ongoing support and informal training. For example, a volunteer has attended the minute taking course, has typed up their first minutes from a meeting and would like some reassurance that the format is correct. Rather than sit there being stressed, through the CLiP mentoring scheme, the volunteer would be able to contact a named mentor to ask for them to have a look through the minutes and give feedback. The mentoring scheme would provide ongoing support and one-to-one training which is tailored to specific needs. The mentors would be provided on a voluntary basis from staff and volunteers within the community that have knowledge, experience or skills that are relevant to people attending the CLiP courses. The Mentors will be trained by CLiP, receive ongoing support and have a commitment to their mentoring role. It is envisaged that initially mentoring support would be provided through email or telephone. We would like to know your views on the CLiP Mentoring Scheme. Mentoring is “help by one person to another in making transitions in knowledge, work or thinking.” The person who does the supporting may be called a Mentor. Most people are someone's Mentor in fact, whether they know it or not. Everyone needs a Mentor, and most of us have one or more. The person being supported may be called the 'Mentee'. Essentially, a Mentor is usually regarded as a combination of 'a trusted colleague' and 'a critical friend'. From CLiP’s point of view mentoring would mean being able to contact someone to ask for information, advice or additional support following the training course. Why Mentoring? Whilst CLiP has provided training for staff and volunteers through programme and bespoke training courses if a volunteer requires further support outside of the training course currently there is nowhere for volunteers to go to get this advice. Therefore there is an identified gap in training support which it is hoped the mentoring programme would fill. Why Mentoring matters to CLiP? · Builds capacity and increases the knowledge base of the voluntary sector in Wrexham County Borough · Improves the ongoing skills of volunteers · Enhances volunteer development · Expands the role of CLiP · CLiP can fulfil the current gap by providing this support. Why Mentoring matters to mentors? · Satisfaction from helping others · Expanding skills · Opportunity to share knowledge and experience · Own personal & career development Why Mentoring matters to ‘mentees’? · Improves capacity · Provides ongoing support and a safety net · Accelerated learning whereby the mentee identifies the training need and instigates the learning process · An opportunity to test ideas · Feedback · Less stress |
